Generate Your Own FavIcon in Minutes!
You’ve seen them, the little icons next to the website urls in your browser’s address bar. That icon is a favicon.ico file saved in your site’s root directory. Been wondering how to get one for your own site? Do you wonder how they did that? Well you can have one, too and it only takes about 5 minutes!
You can create one from scratch in almost any graphics program and save it as an .ico file or you can use FavIcon from Pics to generate one from your already existing logo or graphic file. It is literally as easy as 1-2-3! Let’s get started!
- Go to the FavIcon from Pics page at Chami.com. Browse your computer for your logo or other graphic file in the Source Image box and then click Generate FavIcon.ico. It takes just a minute or two before taking you to the next step.
- Now click on the Download Favicon button to save a zipped file to your computer. This page also shows you a preview of your icon in a sample address bar next to the Download button. The instructions to add your favicon is at the bottom of this page.
- Once downloaded, open the package, upload the favicon.ico to the root folder of your website and add one tiny line of code (that it provides you in the instructions) and that is it! I recommend putting the code in your template if you use one.
That’s it, you’re done! Also, when someone bookmarks your site, the favicon will be saved and show next to your name as well. If you use the Mozilla FireFox browser, it will also display on the tab next to your website name.
